Unwasted is an indoor seating bench made from materials found around the industrial area of Brookvale on Sydney’s Northern Beaches. Shipping pallets are one of the most prolific sources of recycled timber there is. The more you start to look around, the more you will see pallets...everywhere. However as anyone who has worked with pallet wood before will tell you, it’s a nightmare. Warping, cracking, rot and buried nails are just some of the things this material will throw at you. Unwasted represents a shift in expectations for consumers considering their furniture choices. Rather than cursing pallet wood for it’s imperfections, Unwasted embraces these imperfections. As you look closer at the bench you will see the evidence of the timber's past life as a pallet, from buried nail heads to shipping codes printed on the timber. These small details, paired with the hexagonal shape repeated throughout the design contribute to a piece that is not only visually totally unique but also strong and functional.

This piece is a one off and has been exhibited at design exhibitions in Sydney and at MDW 2023.
